Privacy policy
Last updated: October 17, 2026
Monstro collects no data. It has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and it does not connect to the internet. Monsters, clips and settings stay on the device.
This policy covers the Monstro app for iOS and Android (“the app”) and this website. Monstro is made for children aged 4 to 8 and is published by Anton Shpakovskiy.
What the app does not do
- It does not ask for a name, email, age or any other personal information.
- It has no accounts, ads, in-app purchases, analytics or crash reporting, and no third-party SDKs that collect data.
- It does not send anything over the network. On Android it does not even request internet access.
Camera
When the child taps Wake up, the app uses the front camera so the monster can copy the child's face. On iPhone and iPad this uses Apple's ARKit face tracking, which runs entirely on the device.
- While the camera is on, the picture shows in a small round window on the screen. It is never saved, recorded or sent anywhere.
- When the child records a clip, the app stores a short list of numbers for each frame describing the expression: how the head is turned, how open the eyes and mouth are. This is what lets the monster replay the clip. No images of the face are stored, and the numbers are not used to identify anyone.
- Face data is never used for advertising or shared with anyone.
- The camera turns off when the child leaves the screen or after 30 seconds without a face.
Microphone
While a clip is recording, the app records sound from the microphone so the monster can speak in the child's voice. The sound is saved on the device with the clip. A grown-up can turn clip sound off in the grown-up settings.
What stays on the device
- Monsters: their parts, colors and names.
- Clips: the expression numbers and the voice recording, up to three clips per monster.
- Settings: language, sounds, vibration, the grown-up lock and whether the first-run hints were shown.
Deleting a monster deletes its clips. Deleting the app deletes everything. We have no copy, so there is nothing for us to delete or hand over.
Sharing
A grown-up can share a monster as a video, GIF, picture or sticker, or save it to Photos. The file is made on the device and goes only where the grown-up sends it through the system share sheet. From then on, the service it was sent to handles it under its own policy. Sharing is behind a grown-up lock (a multiplication question) unless a grown-up switches the lock off.
Permissions
The app asks for the camera and the microphone. Both are optional: without the camera the monster still makes faces with emotion buttons, and without the microphone clips are silent. Permissions can be changed at any time in the device settings.
Children's privacy
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included. This is how we meet the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the GDPR, and the App Store and Google Play rules for apps made for children.
